Reflection 5#

What specific technologies did you learn about this semester that you think would be valuable to teach in your future classroom? why will this technology be valuable?

I learned how to a smartboard more efficently. It caused me to think different on how to use a smartboard for better lesson plans if I work in a school system. I also finally know how to use excel, I never knew how to use it before, and now that I know how. I'm sure I will use it in the later future. Also a new thing coming into ETPT was learning how to use a blog, before this class I never knew how to use one, let alone, I didnt even know what a blog is. And know that I what one is, I hope to keep using it in the near future. Also with powerpoint, I always knew how to use it, however, after this class, I am more efficent with the program and have a better use of it, in a more timely fashion. I hope to relay this information to other people soon!

  • What benefits do spreadsheets offer teachers?
  • What are the greatest benefits for students when they use spreadsheets in the classroom?
  • Can you envision yourself using spreadsheets in your classroom? Why or why not.
Spreadsheets offer teachers a great way to see different types of facts that could be compared to other facts. It really could show a compare and contrast for students to learn. The greatest benefits for students to use spreadsheets is maybe they need to figure out how to use pie graphs, or learning accounting things. I know when I was a student in high school I would use excel a lot, however never really learned how to use it at all! If I were a teacher I would defently use spreadsheets in the classroom. It would be a great tool for students to learn and use. I wish I had learn to use it a lot longer ago!

Very useful when teaching children to learn new concepts in a orgainzed manner. By having a visually understanding of all of it, would be such a helpfully way for studnets to learn, because I think most people are visual learners.

Case Study

Case Study #1

1. How does each of these scenarios relate to the issue of learning environments?

  • Classroom one - The teacher has chosen between two different math programs for his students. The problems is causes for the issue for a learning enviornment is because it cause's the teacher to pick and chose a program, when both programs have different qaulites to them. So the teacher has to choose between the programs and what is best for the students

  • Classroom two - The teacher has two issues going, the first one being that she either has to pick the websites for her students. Which would cause them to be restricted from finding their own and prehaps being creative. Or secondly, letting her students find websites. However, the school doesnt have blocking software. Thus, causing the students to find bogous websites or inapporiate sites.

  • Classroom three - This learning enviornment causes the teacher to choose whether they should show a animation that could help the students. The problem that she faces, is to pick or choose when to show it or whether or not it would be helpful.

  • Classroom four - For the best learning enviornment the teacher's should put the computers all in one classroom giving a total of 40 computers and each teacher should take turns on each classroom using the computers.
Definition of "Learner Centered"
The perspective that couples a focus on individual learners (their heredity, experiences, perspectives, backgrounds, talents, interests, capacities, and needs) with a focus on learning (the best available knowledge about learning and how it occurs and about teaching practices that are most effective in promoting the highest levels of motivation, learning, and achievement for all learners). This dual focus then informs and drives educational decision making. The learner-centered perspective is a reflection of the twelve learner-centered psychological principles in the programs, practices, policies, and people that support learning for all.

2. Which cases present questions that could be addressed with the Learner-Centered Psychological Principles?

  • Classroom 1 and 3

Case Study #2

1. How si WISE an example of a constructivist learning tool?

  • WISE allows students to work at their own pace. It also has an effiective group control, causing no one person to take more on than the other. WISE allows anyone to change the steps and make it their own steps as they go along the project. This program allows people to be creative and learn at the same time.

3. What features of group work are effective here?

  • Is allows people to work in groups effectly because it doesn't allow just one person to take the brunt of it. It has people choose different parts of the project and in the end combine them all together, to create the the whole project. It sounds like a very effective project for groups.

What do I know and think about integrating technology in the classroom?

In all honesty, I don't know much about integrating technology in the classroom. I am not even a education major. Currently I am studying Speech Language Pathology. The reason I am taking this course is to hopefully use some of what I do learn here and be able to turn it around and use technology in a school environment with children.
What I think I know about technology in the classroom, seems like a great skill to acquire. I know I am more intrigued by powerpoints, video clips, and hands-on websites. Rather than simple lectures of talking, books, overhead projectors, and things of that nature.
I am very excited to learn and know all about intergrating this great technology. To be able to intrigue the children that I am helping with better ways of teaching methods. And hopefully have them benefit from it.
